To celebrate UAE National Reading Day with fun filled activities. UAE National Reading Day was celebrated across primary section on 1st March. It was a fun filled day with lots of activities for the year 1 and 2 children. We began with the story of Maitha Al Khayat who is an Emirati author and illustrator. Children illustrated their favourite book and discussed why reading is important. They shared that reading is important as it is food to our brain. They also shared that reading gives us knowledge and we learn new words. It was great fun and a wonderful day for year1 and 2.

Acknowledge the achievements of women and gender equality.International Women’s Day was celebrated across primary section on 8th March. Students of Year 1 and 2 commenced the International Women’s Day with an informative and thought-provoking presentation. Teachers spoke about the ability and achievements of women. It was further emphasized that the arena of women’s success is not limited to the narrow bounds of gender bias. The purpose of celebrating women’s day was to encourage equality and respect which was depicted by the children in the form of a beautiful poster. They expressed their gratitude to the most inspiring women in their lives. Imparting awareness of different languages spoken across in UAE through self-introduction (in their native language) and creating a post card of important landmarks. The KS1 had an exciting day as they celebrated language diversity in their respective classes through different activities. Year 1’s event was not only great fun, but also a unique and exciting way for kids to experience the magic and joy of learning about another language and culture. Children spoke in their mother tongue and shared information about their favorite animal. Videos for the same were shared on the PADLET link. As part of Lingo fest children also created dual lingual books to share with their peers. Depict the culture and tradition of UAE and create Logo on Wellbeing through the medium of art. The Year 1 had a creative and engaging session during the Art Week. Students designed a poster on their visit to Expo 2020’s Terra - The Sustainability Pavilion. They shared ideas and their learning on ‘The Real-life solutions to real-world problems’. They further researched on their experience on the visit to the inspirational pavilion, illustrated their ideas focusing on how we can make a difference through our actions. The students develop a good understanding of how plastics enter the oceans and different approaches to tackle the problem. The parent representation session was very interactive where students expressed their opinion on plastic pollution and how they could do their bit to help eradicate it. It was an extremely informative session where students developed an understanding about how life below water is impacted by plastic pollution. They also learnt various ways to tackle the serious issue and promised to contribute by bringing awareness on the subject matter.
Celebrating students’ achievements in the academic year and felicitating them with the certificates. As we come towards the end of term 1, each child is felicitated and appreciated for their remarkable contributions. The celebration assembly conducted on 7th December was a time of celebration indeed! The children across Year 1 were appreciated for their behaviour, 100% attendance, Stars of the Month, GEMS Jewels, active contributors of assembly and participation in various events. Great efforts Year 1 Children! Encouraging students to know the importance of saving mother earth and to know how animals need to be protected and saved from being extinct. Animals maintain the health of an ecosystem. And, when species become endangered, it’s a sign that an ecosystem is out of balance. The importance of showing children the assembly on Extinct Animals was to showcase how important it for us to protect and respect these species. Children showcased awareness on how even animals need to be loved and taken care too. They shared very interesting and small roleplay on how they can keep the animals and the mother earth safe.
It was a pleasure to see how confident they were in showcasing this wonderful cause and they definitely motivated many to do the same. Celebrating the glory of the golden jubilee of the UAE National Day. Students of class 1G celebrated the 50th UAE National Day with their amazing class assembly. They paid tribute to the great leader His Highness Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan through a poem dedicated to the Arabian legend, by Ghalib Mohammed Ali Al Maskeri depicting his vision starting from his foresight in unifying the seven different emirates and to set the course for the country's stratospheric growth.
They further expressed their emotions and showcased their talent in the form of music, as they sang together praising the spirit of tolerance and unity in diversity. To enlighten students about the importance of tolerance and its relevance in everyday life, we celebrated the International Tolerance Day at The Winchester School. Students’ wellbeing is of utmost importance for us and to develop the awareness on wellbeing within our students, we celebrated the International Tolerance Day on Tuesday, 16thth November. Year 1 students shared their views and ideas on why we should practise Tolerance. Moreover, the way this important message was delivered to the students through child friendly presentations and kindness camp. They build a positive classroom community by sharing an act of kindness that someone did to you or you would do to someone on a strip and build a chain. To create awareness about the effects of diabetes amongst children. Children need to know that healthy living is the key to happiness. Keeping this in mind the Form tutor time in KS1 had been an informative session where the teachers discussed about leading a healthy life. Lot of insight on why we should choose to eat healthy food, exercise and always have a positive outlook was shared. The year 1 children were engaged in watching the video presentation on World Diabetes day. They gathered information on what is diabetes and how to prevent and manage diabetes. Followed by students and teachers had a fruitful discussion on living a healthy life style. |
